How to make a Cinemagraph:

First, you need a clip of film that has a moving element. You should get around 30 seconds of film and also film it with the camera absolutely still on a tripod.

Once you have a segment of film you’re happy with, open Photoshop and follow these steps
– Open File -> Open -> Video
– Find a still part of the film where you want it to start and shorten the film length by using [   ]   on the film strip at the bottom of the screen
– Drag the new segment of film above the File on the right, and delete the bottom layer
– Now put your pointer at the start & press CTRL + A then CTRL + J (cmd + a the cmd + j on a mac)
– Hide film layer and check image is not moving
– Drag to same size as the film
– Move Video slightly off from the left
– Add a Mask over the top Layer
– Turn off the other layers and using brush tool, rub out where you want to move
– Refine where you want the moving section to be by using the brush tool
–  You then need to export it as a gif and you are finished! Here is my own I created:
